What is a VPN Server?

A VPN server allows the hosting and delivery of a VPN service using a combination of hardware and software technologies. Most servers use more than one communication and encryption protocols such as PPP to authenticate the new clients.

Typically, a VPN provider will have many different servers worldwide. For example, NordVPN has a network of 3,944 servers in 62 different countries. Meanwhile, ExpressVPN has a network of over 2,000 global VPN servers.
